Kathleen PARKES (1916-1995)

Secured civil service position with Irish Government through competitive

national examinations and relocated to Dublin where she lived most of her life.

Eventually rose to responsible position in the Department of Environment.

Did not marry, despite opportunities. Instead, undertook complete care and

support of her mother, Mary Bridget (Cassidy) Parkes, the matriarch of the

family. Provided the major support for brother, Patrick, in pursuing his

studies at the Marist Brothers' Juniorate in Dumfries, Scotland. Acted as

"clearing house" through which news and information about family matters were

transmitted to family members. Was loved and respected by virtually everyone.

Died in her sleep at home at 102 Crumlin Road, Dublin. Viewing of deceased and

funeral mass held at St. Bernadette's Church, Clogher Road, Dublin.
