Roger PARKE ( -bef1641)

Came to Sligo, Ireland around 1601 with Sir Robert Jones, Constable of Sligo

Castle. He was partners with Sir Robert Jones in acquiring the castle and site

at Newtown (near Dromahaire, County Leitrim) from Sir James Spottswood. They

also built St. John's Church in Sligo and Dunally Castle which eventually

became his permanent residence with land holdings in excess of 1,100 acres.

Robert's origin is unknown (so far) but he used the coat of arms of a family

named Parker of Norfolk, England.

A Roger Parke de Sligo was named as a Juror in an inquisition held in Sligo,

24 Sep 1627. This Juror is almost certainly the same Roger Parke, the first

Parke ancestor in Ireland.
