The year of her birth, 1804, is based on the following: her sister Elizabeth (for whom there is reasonable evidence of birth in 1800) is referred to in their father's will as his eldest daughter; Jane is listed as the last of her three sisters, both in her father's will and in the Edmund Fortescue law suit; her sisters give their ages in the 1861 census as 60 and 57; and the John Bennett Trust papers have a copy of her baptism entry for 30 June 1804.
