Roger PARKE Lt. Col. (1726-1819)

His son William, writing to Richey, the genealogist, said Roger was born 1726. William said Roger married Alice Browne in 1774 - it was 1775

He had a male servant Jason Parke

Of Dunally and Dunsmore, Co. Sligo. High Sheriff, Co. Sligo, 1776.

 

This Roger was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Sligo Militia appearing with William Parke, Castlecarr, Co. Leitrim in land deed dated 26 January 1764. Land deed deals with repayment of a loan by Roger Parke to William Parke.

He appears as "R. Parke, commissioned 20 July 1807 in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel" in the nominal roll of officers of the County Sligo Regiment for the year 1793 showing the rank last held by each. This is confirmed by the entry "Lt Col Roger Parke, 20/7/1807" appearing in a list of officers of the Sligo Militia or 22nd Battalion published in the Gentleman's Almanac.

Roger's Will bequeathing land and properties to wife, Alicia, and sons was dated 6 June 1816 with three codicils dated 1 August 1816, 21 April 1817, and 24 October 1817.

As of September 1998 a memorial plaque to Roger was located in the old Kilmore Church (Church of Ireland) near Drumsna, Co. Roscommon. The church, however, is in disrepair and efforts are being made by Parke descendants to have it moved elsewhere to a more secure location.
